What’s Involved

Traditional Acupuncture involves a gentle needling technique and lots of patient-practitioner interaction so you'll always know exactly what I'm doing.

The initial session - the Traditional Diagnosis - involves taking a full history, a very brief physical examination and then the first treatment.
It takes 1½ to 2 hours.  Future treatments take about 1 hour.

At the Traditional Diagnosis, I will find out more about why you have come for acupuncture, your medical and family history, lifestyle, how your body operates on a daily basis and where you are emotionally. This helps to diagnose the root cause of problems and how acupuncture can help.

Very fine, sterile and disposable stainless steel needles are used - usually, they are inserted shallowly into an acupuncture point, briefly rotated and removed immediately.  Moxa, a therapeutic herb, is sometimes warmed over the point to nourish and strengthen the energy.

When the needle passes through the skin, there can be a brief sharpness.  When it connects with the qi energy, there can be a dull ache or a sensation like a mild current of electricity.  Everyone experiences it differently and it is not usually painful, although there can be a momentary discomfort at times.
